The Team at Everest Contracting have been working on revamping 12 balconies around a block of 15 units. These balconies were having issues with concrete spalling so they had to be demolished and re-waterproofed, tiled and new balustrades installed.
One of the most interesting points about this job, was that the balconies turned out to be significantly thinner than the engineering company had initially thought. This could have caused structural issues in the future, so the scope of works had to be changed multiple times throughout the project. This meant our team having to adapt to using different materials than they would normally use while trying to maintain the highest standard possible. The clients also changed their minds several times throughout the project. This included changing the topping of the balconies from a trafficable membrane to tiles, just to keep us on our toes.
One of the other major changes, which presented a big challenge, included the removal and then reinstatement of 16 of the timber balcony doors which were original and over 50 years old and some in very poor condition.
Thanks to Dean and the team for overcoming these obstacles and giving the residents at Croydon refreshed and sturdy balconies.
